The enterprises they studied that had deployed comprehensive AI systems reported an average 34% increase in total headcount over three years, not a decrease. The explanation is counterintuitive but consistent: AI eliminates low-value tasks, which frees human capital for high-value work, which creates competitive advantage, which funds growth, which requires more people. The companies losing jobs to AI are those using AI tactically — a chatbot here, an automation tool there. The companies gaining competitive workforce advantage are those deploying AI at the operating system level.
